Vegetable Sandwich

This is Mumbai’s famous street food fare. Makes for a filling breakfast or brunch or evening snack. You can have it toasted or just plain without toasting.

Butter two slices. Liberally apply green chutney on the unbuttered sides of both the bread slices. On one of the slices, start layering with boiled potato slices, cucumber slices, tomato slices, onion slices and capsicum rounds. Sprinkle chaat masala pwd and black pepper pwd on top. Layer with a cheese slice (optional). Top with the bread slice and toast till golden brown. Serve warm with tomato ketchup.

Green chutney recipe: Grind 1 cup chopped coriander leaves, few mint leaves, 1-2 green chilli, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tsp sugar and 1/2 tsp salt to a fine paste, adding little water.

  2. hello,
    how to toast the sandwich?

You can use a sandwich toaster or toast over a medium hot tawa. Drizzle some low fat butter on the tawa and toast on both sides till golden brown.

  3. Hi Sailu,
I have been following your recipe blog for a while and trying your recipes all of them a hit with my family. This one takes the cake, coz my son who dislikes vegetables like most 6 yr olds…loves this sandwich :) Thanks again for posting this recipe!!1

  4. Sailugaru,
I’ve been a frequent visitor/lurker to your blog for a long time and really enjoy your creativity in your recipes and other posts.
I recently moved here (Hyderabad) from the US and had a question regarding the cheese you use in your pizza recipes.
I’ve tried Amul and Heritage Pizza cheese (frozen section) with not-so-great results.
I grate the frozen cheese on top of the pizza base but they turn out stringy and dry instead of bubbly like your corn pizza photos.
Could you tell me which ones you use or if I’m using them wrongly?

    Thanks in advance!
    -Madhavi

  5. You can use Amul Mozzarella Cheese, that is what I have used. When you over bake it becomes stringy. Just allow to melt.

  7. This site is good. just now i am going through it. I will definitely try these but i am not understanding some food items written in english.

  8. It looks very delicious but my children don’t like sandwiches specially if a sandwich needs to be held tightly then they dont like it, as soon as it drips they leave it right there. So I try to make vegetable kebabs and I don’t use chutney at all.

  9. Just read the recepie and it sounded soo yummy had to try immediately….for MYSELF!!!!Its yummy.Thanks.
