Vegetable Sandwich

Vegetable Sandwich

This is Mumbai’s famous street food fare. Makes for a filling breakfast or brunch or evening snack. You can have it toasted or just plain without toasting.

Butter two slices. Liberally apply green chutney on the unbuttered sides of both the bread slices. On one of the slices, start layering with boiled potato slices, cucumber slices, tomato slices, onion slices and capsicum rounds. Sprinkle chaat masala pwd and black pepper pwd on top. Layer with a cheese slice (optional). Top with the bread slice and toast till golden brown. Serve warm with tomato ketchup.

Green chutney recipe: Grind 1 cup chopped coriander leaves, few mint leaves, 1-2 green chilli, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tsp sugar and 1/2 tsp salt to a fine paste, adding little water.

  1. Woww…that’s an amazing sandwich….im craving for this as its almost lunch time for me i wish my cafeteria would serve this!!

  2. hello,
    how to toast the sandwich?

You can use a sandwich toaster or toast over a medium hot tawa. Drizzle some low fat butter on the tawa and toast on both sides till golden brown.

  3. Hi Sailu,
I have been following your recipe blog for a while and trying your recipes all of them a hit with my family. This one takes the cake, coz my son who dislikes vegetables like most 6 yr olds…loves this sandwich :) Thanks again for posting this recipe!!1

  4. Sailugaru,
I’ve been a frequent visitor/lurker to your blog for a long time and really enjoy your creativity in your recipes and other posts.
I recently moved here (Hyderabad) from the US and had a question regarding the cheese you use in your pizza recipes.
I’ve tried Amul and Heritage Pizza cheese (frozen section) with not-so-great results.
I grate the frozen cheese on top of the pizza base but they turn out stringy and dry instead of bubbly like your corn pizza photos.
Could you tell me which ones you use or if I’m using them wrongly?

    Thanks in advance!

  5. You can use Amul Mozzarella Cheese, that is what I have used. When you over bake it becomes stringy. Just allow to melt.

  6. hmmmmmmmm wonderful sandwich… i tried at home my wife liked it so much thank you so much its lite also rey shailu rey umma

  7. This site is good. just now i am going through it. I will definitely try these but i am not understanding some food items written in english.

  8. It looks very delicious but my children don’t like sandwiches specially if a sandwich needs to be held tightly then they dont like it, as soon as it drips they leave it right there. So I try to make vegetable kebabs and I don’t use chutney at all.

  9. Just read the recepie and it sounded soo yummy had to try immediately….for MYSELF!!!!Its yummy.Thanks.

  10. hello,

  12. Hi Sailu,i am a frequent visitor of ur site and like all the dishes{except non-veg} as i am totally veggie.i have tried many of ur dishes & they have turned out fine & have been liked by my family .in 2days page u have given recipe of “Veg.Sandwich”.I have tried it many times but every time it takes a longer time to get toasted as the evaporation of moisture content in the vegetables used takes a long time due 2 which the sandwich does not turn out crisp, what can be the possible reason of it.Secondly can u suggest some recipes which are easy to make, less time consuming, light,low-cal. & easy to carry in tiffin. If possible pl.reply on my e-mail.Thanks.

  13. HI this is really nice looking sandwhich but when ever i am trying to make in a sandwhich maker it doesnt apper like it is in the picture, sometime when i put on sandwhich machine some of filling are coming out, any help where i am doing wrong in grilling?? shall i use a normal frypan will it work? i will really like to know if possible please rely on my emal. Thank you Blessings

  14. Reduce the quantity of filling you add to the sandwich and do not close the lid tight. Even normal fry pan will work for a good toasted sandwich.

  15. Thank yu sooo much… :)
