In the last post 6 Breakfast meals I had featured only the food images. Its been more than 4 weeks since I have posted those images. Offline activity is keeping me busy and has kept me away from the online world. This week I will be posting all the 6 breakfast recipes.

Today its Poha (called Atukulu in Telugu and Aval in Tamil) aka rice flakes upma. Very quick recipe that can be prepared in less than 15 mts.

Prep & Cooking Time: 15 mts

Serves 4 persons

Cuisine: Andhra/South Indian

.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups atukulu/poha, wash, drain and sprinkle 6-7 tbsps of water and keep aside for 10 mts

1 finely chopped large onion

3-4 slit green chillis (adjust)

large pinch of turmeric pwd/haldi/pasupu

1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves (optional)

1-2 tbsps roasted peanuts

1/2 tbsp oil

2 tsps lemon juice (optional)

salt to taste

For seasoning:

1 tsp mustard seeds

1/2 tbsp split black gram

10-12 curry leaves

1 Heat oil in a cooking vessel, add the mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add the black gram and curry leaves and saute them till the dal turn slightly brown and a nice aroma emanates the kitchen.
2 Add the chopped onions and green chillis and saute for 4-5 mts. Add the turmeric pwd and combine.
4 Now, add the softened poha to the sauteed onion base and mix it lightly and see that no lumps form and it combines well. Cook on low flame for 3-4 mts. Add the roasted peanuts, salt and combine. Turn off heat, add a dash of lime and garnish with coriander leaves.
5 Serve hot with any pickle of your choice.

Note:

For variation, you can add grated carrots and green peas and garnish with grated coconut.
